June 2006
ODS Medical (“ODS”), developer and marketer of PACScomm CD/DVD Image Recording Systems and the PACScomm Plus Image Storage & Distribution System, announces its V2.5 upgrade release with the following features and functions:

1.  “View Station Solution” – Adds DICOM and generic “hot shares” ability to create CDs or DVDs from other DICOM sources.  The generic “hot share” allows any data to be recorded onto the CD/DVD drive.

This feature extends the utility of the PACScomm System to provide a convenient interface to CD creating systems in addition to DICOM environments.  Typically, workstations and other applications can create CD content but rely on the operator to manually record the information and require the operator to hand write the label using a marker pen or to make an adhesive label for the CD.  The View Station Solution feature provides a configurable record job share folder to be used as a mechanism for the PACScomm to capture and automatically record and label CDs.

2.  Completed support for Rimage thermal robotics and printers.

3.  Support for DVD Dual layer media (8.5GB capacity).

4.  Automated Workflow Assistant – Allows DICOM images to be sent to the PACScomm and automatically forwarded to other DICOM stations, enhancing workflow.

5.  Enhanced user interface for PACScomm Lite, a newer, low cost system with manual disk feed for CD/DVD burning applications for the low volume requirements of small hospitals and imaging centers, and outlying locations affiliated with large institutions.  The system includes a PC server and Elesys Duet 400 DVD/CD recorder/printer.

6.  Completed Support of Elesys Duet 400 Drive/Printer to allow for more effective control of interface between drive and PACScomm software.  The Duet 400 is the new record and print module for all PACScomm inkjet models including PACScomm I and II, as well as PACScomm Lite.

PACScomm and PACSstor Network Attachment Solutions Attract Major Hospital and Imaging Center Accounts

PACScomm and PACSstor Network Attachment Solutions have attracted major hospital and imaging center interest and accounts, including Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland, Park Nicollet Health Services in Minnesota, Montefiore Hospital in New York, MRI Center of Idaho in Boise, and Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in Wisconsin.

These installations are representative of the types of applications PACScomm and PACSstor address in supporting filmless imaging operations for healthcare institutions of all sizes, including medical research, disaster recovery, pre-PACS, and distribution of image studies to patients and physicians.

February 2006

PACScomm V2.4 Feature/Function Release and Product Redesign

1. PACScomm Redesign
The newly redesigned PACScomm unit features a fully enclosed system. This design provides a very simple system install with no assembly or cabling required. This fully integrated system provides a single, space-optimizing footprint, enabling the unit to be adaptable for multiple surface options, including tables or shelving.

2. Initial Support for Application Backup/Restore
A powerful addition to the traditional “Rapid Replacement Program”, this feature automatically backs up all pertinent customer configurable information onto a CD/DVD for recovery at a later time. In the event of a system failure, a replacement system can be automatically restored to the previous system configuration within minutes.

3. Support of Elesys Duet 400 Drive/Printer
The Duet 400 is the new record and print module for all PACScomm inkjet models including PACScomm I and II. The Duet drive also enables the “PACScomm Lite” version, which is ideal for low-volume, low-cost sensitive installations. The Duet 400 is the smallest DVD/CD recorder/printer available in the U.S. market.

4. Support for Manual Drives
Made possible by the incorporation of the Duet 400 Drive/Printer enabling a manual system.

5. Disaster Recovery
Provides the ability, using DVDs, to completely recover the system in the event of a major hardware failure.

6. PACScomm Premier Web-based Software Package
Expands single media operation to CD and DVD capability, with advanced features, web access, and networkability with PACScomm systems. Supports intake of CDs from other providers. Includes new PC with installed software for easy field implementation.

Media Blitz: CDs Burn as DVDs Sit on the Back Burner
The need for standards
by Beth Walsh

Excerpt:

"Large studies have always been a challenge," says Doug Ricci, PACS manager for the department of radiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Fortunately, he only needs to publish exams to CD in cases where a physician at another institution wants to view the study. Typically, it's a neuroradiology study that requires the special treatment.

Ricci uses software from ODS Medical to burn studies onto CDs and has worked with the company to help enhance the software's special features. For example, the software automatically determines whether the study should go to CD or DVD, based on its size. It also automatically breaks the study at appropriate points. "ODS is working with us for new ways to send these exams to our equipment." In fact, it was at Ricci's suggestion that ODS developed a feature that allows a radiologic technologist standing at the CT scanner to press a "destination" button on the scanner to send the exam to a CD or multiple CDs for "hands-free" publishing. A destination on the scanner called "autoburn" lets the technologist select a series and simply pick up the CD five minutes later.
